About this newsletter
We are approaching the end of semester 1, which means that we are approaching the mid-year exam period. This newsletter therefore has much information about these exams and other related academic events, such as upcoming parents meetings.
There will be parents meetings for all students over the coming weeks. The IFY parents meeting will be held on 30 November. The parents meeting for AP Year 1 will take place on Friday 27 December, while for AP Year 2 & 3 students these will take place on two days, Thursday 16 and Friday 17 December. AP parents should recently have received notification of a survey on the parents meetings (please check your emails). Your feedback from this will help us to decide the format for these parents meetings, and the dates and days of the week for future parents meetings.

All Year 3 students have now completed their Early Application (EA) and Early Decision (ED) applications. These were successfully sent to colleges via the Naviance system, which was mentioned in the previous newsletter. I am sure you would like to join me in thanking all the staff involved in this difficult work, including student services, who worked individually with students on their applications, and the English department, who spent many hours checking college application essays. We look forward to hearing good news of college acceptances through EA/ED applications. Read more here.
One of the lessons students need to learn at HFI is academic integrity. This is an important lesson because students caught cheating at university may be expelled from the university and/or the country. I am sorry to have to report that there have been a few instances of cheating in tests. I would like all parents to be aware of the seriousness of cheating in any tests or exams, and to discuss this subject with their child. If caught cheating, a student could score zero for an exam, which would have a serious impact on their result for that subject, and for their college application. Cheating is simply not worth the risk, and the simple message to students is: don’t do it. Read more here.
