以下为朱校长在华附国际部2017届毕业典礼上致辞原文：

尊敬的各位领导、各位来宾，敬爱的家长们、亲爱的同学们：

      大家下午好！今天，我们相聚在这里，共同见证2017届华附国际部学生的毕业盛典。

      首先，我要向毕业生们表示祝贺，祝贺你们圆满完成了在华附国际部三年的学习顺利毕业。对前来参加毕业典礼的来宾和家长们表示热烈的欢迎和衷心的感谢！

      我们高兴地看到，今年的AP毕业生以优异的综合实力被全球诸多顶尖大学录取；IFY的28位毕业生，圆满完成华附IFY英澳预科的学习，暑期结束后即将奔赴英澳名校深造学习。其中共有27位同学申请英国大学，100%获得英国名校的预录取。1位赴澳同学的录取工作还在紧张地进行之中。

      华附国际部坚持国际化人才培养的视野和理念，把提升办学质量作为第一要务，规范办学，严谨治学，科学管理，使得学校健康发展，跻身国内同类学校前列，受到业内和社会各界的肯定和好评。华附国际部能取得这样喜人的成绩，首先得益于国际部的中外教师团队对教育事业的热爱和对人类未来的责任；得益于宽阔的国际胸怀和精诚的合作行动以及对学生的高度负责和辛勤付出；其次，得益于同学们的积极配合和自身的刻苦努力学习。当然还得益于各位家长的信任、理解和支持。由于你们的付出，才促使我们通过共同的努力实现了同学们国际化求学的梦想。借此机会，感谢我们为此付出的努力！

      此时此刻，大家都有很多的话要向毕业的同学们说，感恩、自重、努力、健康等等成为最热的叮嘱词语。我想说的有两点：

      一是牢记附中的文化。附中文化是由历代附中人沉淀的精神文化，概括起来就是两大部分：一是精神文化——自立自强、敢为人先、追求卓越、崇尚一流。二是我们的校训——进德修业、格物致知。

      在历史上，在上个世纪初叶，我们华附最早引入现代教学模式，最早开设现代体育运动课程，最早接受女学生；新中国成立后，我们坚持教育教学改革，成为普教战线的一面旗帜；进入新的世纪，我们率先开展课程改革；引入国际课程，开设国际部；设立创新人才实验班和大学先修实验班等等。华附人自立自强、敢为人先、追求卓越、崇尚一流的文化需要一代代的附中人去传承，值得传承。

      附中的文化中还包括进德修业，格物致知的校训，其核心要义就是要我们提高道德修养，做人做事，要知其然并知其所以然，要有真才实学，扩大功业建树。在我国，无论从传统文化之中，还是现行的用人政策，都强调德才兼备，以德为先，这几乎是世界各国的共识。因此，我们一定要处理好德和才的关系。司马光主编的《资治通鉴》中有精彩的总结。“才者，德之资也。德者，才之帅也”。意思是才能是一个人的依托，人没有才，就不可能有大的作为；而德是才的统帅，一个人的才能的施展，只有用品德去统帅、去规范，才能使“才”用在正道上。今天，最大的德就是要热爱国家、热爱党、热爱人民、心地善良、报效国家、造福人类以及学会感恩。我们要让进德修业、格物致知的校训浸润心田。华附之所以成为岭南名校，人才摇篮，华附人之所以优秀，正是附中独特的文化引领的结果。因此，我希望所有附中毕业的同学们都应该将这种文化融入血液之中，落实在行动上，成为做人做事的指南。

      适应全球化发展的需要，同学们将要离开父母到海外求学。事实上，大学本科阶段学习的要求是非常严格的，我认为同学们的学习能力没有问题，这里特别要提醒同学们的是你们的生活能力真的需要提升，我几次到你们的宿舍巡查，你们宿舍的卫生和东西的摆放，我只能说“满目疮痍、惨不隐睹”。这种状态真的要改变，一屋不扫何以扫天下？！请同学们自重，一定要抽出时间来整理好自己的房间和安排好好自己的生活，并形成良好的习惯。

      同学们，在新的国家新的地方，你们一定会遇到许多令人快乐兴奋的事情，当然也一定会遇到各种困难和问题。很多时候，大家在做同样的事情，面对几乎同样的困难和问题，有的人退缩了，于是，其人生高度也就止步于此。而有的人凭借坚强的意志力和智慧，克服了困难，解决了问题，实现了超越，上了新的台阶。事实告诉我们，一个人在最困难的时候，也就是要成功的时候。因此，无论你遇到了什么困难和问题，要积极想办法去克服和解决。

      最后，我用我在附中本部学生成人礼的贺卡上的题词结束我今天的讲话：“附中人当自信自强、德才兼备、快乐健康；应脚踏实地，追求卓越，心有梦想；以真才实学报效祖国，造福人类，勇于担当！

Distinguished guests, parents and school fellows

Good afternoon! Today, we are all here, witnessing the graduation ceremony of the class of 2017 in HFI.

First, I would like to congratulate all graduates. Congratulations to your successful completion of the 3 year study at HFI. I would also like to express my warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all the guests and parents here today. Thank you for your attending!

We are with great pleasure to see that the students in AP program have been successfully admitted by the top universities all around the world. 28 students in IFY program have also accomplished their international foundation year and are going to study at the universities in the UK and Australia after this summer vocation. 27 students applied universities in the UK, 100% of whom have been offered a place by the top universities. One student’s application of universities in Australia is with ongoing admission.

With globalized vision in education and priority to expertise, HFI maintains sustainable development under high standards, strict requirements and scientific management. It ranks among the top high schools and has won the praise from all walks of life. This great achievement benefits from our faculties’ enthusiasm in education, responsibility on future generations, close collaboration and persistent hard work. Also, it cannot come to be without the trust, understanding and support from all parents. Your efforts promote our students’ accomplishment on an international stage. Taking this opportunity, I would like to share my appreciation to all the work we have done.

At this moment, we have millions of words to share with our graduates. To be grateful, self-respected, hard-working and to live a healthy life. For my part, I want to put stress on the following two points:

The first point is to bear the culture of Huafu in mind. Our school culture is condensed and inherited from the spirit of the past generations, which can be concluded into two aspects. One is their spirit – self-reliance, courage to excel, pursuit of excellence and commitment to the best. The other is the school motto – to enhance virtues and refine achievements, to explore the nature and acquire the essence.

At the beginning of last century, Huafu is the first school bringing in modern education, the best school integrating modern physical education curriculum, and the earliest one accepting female students. After the foundation of China, we persisted in the reform of education and pedagogy, being recognized as a flag in the area of general education. In the new era, we took the lead in curriculum innovation, introducing international courses and establishing the International Department, the experimental class of innovative talents and advanced placement class. The school culture of self-reliance, courage to excel, pursuit of excellence and commitment to the best is in need of and worth inheritance by each generation.

In terms of the school motto – to enhance virtues and refine achievements; to explore the nature and acquire the essence – the core is to improve our moral integrity and self-cultivation, to explore the intrinsic principle of things and to possess genuine skills and knowledge so as to enhance one’s achievements. In China, possessing virtue and capacity with the guidance of the former is stressed in both traditional culture and modern personnel policy, which is also a consensus among countries worldwide. Hence, good management of the relationship between virtue and capacity is in necessity. There is a reference in Zi Zhi Tong Jian, edited by SIMA Guang, a famous scholar in Chinese history. Capacity, virtue’s source; virtue, capacity’s captain. It means, one cannot make achievements without capacities. However, it is virtue leading him/her to behave. One’s capacity can only function properly under the guidance and regulation of morality. Today, the fundamental virtue is to love our mother country, to consider for people, to be good-natured, to serve our country, to benefit mankind and to be grateful. Our heart needs to be fertilized by the school motto. Huafu maintains high reputation and remains the cradle of talents in South China, where the students excel others and create difference in various areas. This is largely due to the distinctive school culture. Therefore, I hope all Huafu graduates to bear the culture in mind, to apply it into practice, to behave under the guide of it.

Meeting the need of globalization, our graduates are going to pursue higher education abroad without parents’ charge. In fact, the requirements of undergraduate courses are rather stringent. I have no concern on your learning ability. What I would like to stress is your independent living ability. I have patrolled your dormitory several times. It has to be described as ‘a scene of devastation which can hardly bear the sight’. This situation has to be improved. A journey with thousands of miles begins with a single step. Please dignify yourself, spare time to clean up your own room, manage your life in a proper way, and cultivate favorable habits.

Dear graduates, you will encounter a lot of novelties in a new place, with difficulties and problems of course. In most cases, you are doing the same thing and facing the same trouble, but some of you may withdraw, where their progress ceased, while some others may exceed themselves and step onto a new stage with their perseverance and intelligence. The evidence invites us a lesson that success is right at the corner when you feel something severely difficult. Therefore, whatever obstacles you encounter, a pro-active attitude to fight against them is in need.

To conclude, I would like to quote my words for Huafu graduates to end my speech today, ‘Huafu graduates should possess the spirit of self-reliance, grace with virtues and talents, harbor a positive attitude to life, be down to earth, pursue excellence and embrace dreams, to serve the country, contribute to the world with the braveness of commitment.
