Unique and demanding, the integration of Chinese high school courses and AP courses in HFI curriculum helps students construct complete knowledge structure, lay the sound groundwork for academic development, nurture rigorous academic integrity, foster critical and innovative thinking, and light the passion for pursuing the truth.
HFI values interdisciplinary connection and integration, pays close attention to students’ physical and mental balanced development, and cares about the harmony between individual progression and the outer world.
As a diverse community, HFI is more than a campus for study, but a home for mutual growing. Rooted in traditional Chinese culture, HFI comprises multi-thoughts and -cultures. Through student clubs and extra-curricular activities full of variety, unique co-education of family and school, and superb alumni network worldwide, students are cultivated to care about and participate in community development and eventually grow to be responsible global citizens.
The primary aim of education is to know oneself. From the first day at HFI, students are encouraged to explore who they are, what talents and interests they have, and what their goal is. In the circle of unceasing exploration and action, directed by teachers, students’ self-awareness grows clearer and self-plan is acquired.
Curriculum design at HFI breaks the constraints of selection system in college and follows students’ inner motivation to explore and study, with more courses provided to meet intellectual curiosity and more flexible optional course system to stimulate self-study and self-motivation.
Reading to think and debate, students are encouraged to inquire facts and truths underneath the surface, to reach in-depth thinking and reasoning, and to form independent analyzing and problem solving abilities ultimately.
In academic environment, with more opportunities and space endowed to build up abilities in expression and communication, students are encouraged to develop and practice social skills. In life, empathy, culture and custom understanding, communication and coordination, tolerance and compromise is made the key of sociability education. This runs throughout school education and students’ whole high school life.
Community sense is a sense of belonging among community members. Caring about surroundings, from class, student clubs, and campus to residential estates, streets, and cities, students at HFI need to think about responsibilities as a community member, to discover community problems from self-perspective, to cooperative with other community members and to make dedications.
Through academic practice inside and outside class, students learn the precious human civilization and wealth of knowledge in history and culture, perceive and understand multi-cultures and -values rationally, build up civic knowledge, civic skills and civic dispositions, and eventually grow to be responsible global citizens.
