(Cognitive Science Club)
Question → Think → Challenge
2、Daily Routine
Monthly Topic Question
③ Seminar
Example:
If love is just neural activity, does it still have meaning?
④ Debate
Debate
⑥ Academic / Competition(我们不是纯娱乐!)
* Brain Challenge
* Brain Bee
* John Locke
* Cognitive Science competitions
* Research
* Academic presentation (informal)
Example: Mina
Summarize
* Debate
1. 对学生
Critical Thinking
区分:
Fact ≠ Opinion ≠ Emotion
Objective & subjective
* memory
* attention
* motivation
* procrastination
* decision-making
* learning strategies
Seminar → Debate

## 1. Club Definition & Introduction
### Club Definition
**Cognitive Science Club**
Based on cognitive science, we explore how people perceive, think, remember, learn, make decisions, and why we develop certain opinions and behaviors.
The club is not limited to purely academic knowledge. Instead, we connect cognitive science with **everyday life, philosophy of mind, psychology, social issues, and personal reflection.**
### Club Introduction / Public Positioning
**Core: Question → Think → Challenge**
Through discussions, Seminars, Debates, anonymous “Drift Bottles,” and social-issue analysis, we aim to help members:
* Become curious about their own cognition
* Learn to look at problems from different perspectives
* Distinguish between **facts, opinions, and emotions**
* Develop critical thinking
* Apply cognitive science to problems in everyday life
### Official WeChat Account
The club president will establish a **Cognitive Science Club official account** as the club’s main public platform.
All club activities will be documented and shared through the account.
**No information gap within the club!**
---
## 2. Daily Routine
### ① Drift Bottle|Once a Month
Two types of Drift Bottles will be collected each month:
**A. Theme Bottle**
A theme will be selected by the club, and members can anonymously share their thoughts.
(Here’s the anonymous “朋友圈” you’ve been looking for! Say whatever you want!)
**B. Open Bottle**
Members can submit their own questions and first write down:
**What do I currently think about this?**
Topics can include:
* Academic questions
* Philosophical questions
* Personal concerns
* Social phenomena
* Personal reflections
* Questions about oneself
### ② 🗳️ Monthly Vote
A monthly topic vote will be held under the Open Bottle posts.
Members will vote to select one **Monthly Topic Question**.
### ③ Seminar
During the first week, a Seminar will be held around the **Monthly Question**.
The club president and the core team will prepare the session.
The purpose is to introduce the topic, provide different scenarios, perspectives, knowledge, and materials, encourage open-ended and critical thinking, and help members gradually form their own opinions.
**Example:**
*If love is just neural activity, does it still have meaning?*
The Seminar may include:
* Scenarios
* Scientific research
* Philosophical perspectives
* Different positions
* Thought-provoking questions
**Format:**
The Seminar will be held online. Members can choose to remain completely silent if they wish, making it suitable for both a study-room setting and a classroom setting.
The goal is not passive thinking or forced participation, but giving everyone enough time and space to genuinely understand the question and develop their own thoughts.
### ④ Debate
The following week or two weeks later, a Debate will be held.
The format will be **open discussion rather than formal competitive debating.**
Participants can:
* Choose their own position
* Prepare evidence
* Prepare arguments
* Prepare counterarguments
Members may also choose to remain silent and simply listen as an audience.
We will compare members’ positions before and after the Debate to observe changes in **opinions, perspectives, and cognitive attitudes**, followed by a final summary and reflection.
### ⑤ Club Day / Recruitment Event
Main activity:
**“Cognition Determines the Outcome” Game**
Through games, situational choices, cognitive biases, memory, judgment, and other interactive activities, we aim to attract new members.
The goal is not to make everyone learn cognitive science in one session, but to make them think:
> **“Wait… my brain actually influences my choices in ways I didn’t realize.”**
From there, they can learn more about and join the club.
### ⑥ Academic / Competition Track(We Are NOT Just for Fun!)
For members who want to gain practical academic experience and achievements, we will provide opportunities such as:
* Brain Challenge
* Brain Bee
* John Locke
* Cognitive Science competitions
* Research
* Academic presentations(informal)
***Regarding Social Issues — News Analysis(Once a Month):***
### **How Do We Look at the News?**
> **Reconstruct what actually happened → Distinguish facts from opinions → Observe public reactions → Analyze the cognitive mechanisms behind them**
**Example: Mina’s suicide case**
> Why do people immediately focus on a person’s identity, appearance, or labels instead of the event itself?
> Why do fans sometimes defend people they support unconditionally, even when evidence may suggest otherwise?
> Why does the public so easily form opposing camps?
The goal is not to tell people **what to think**, but to ask:
> **Why do we think this way?**
---
### Summarize Club Flow
**Four main posts will be published each month:**
* Theme Drift Bottle
* Open Drift Bottle(including Monthly Topic voting)
* Social Hotspots / News Analysis(around three topics)
* Debate Highlights
---
# 三、Club Impact
### 1. For Students
Develop **Critical Thinking**.
Learn to distinguish:
> **Fact ≠ Opinion ≠ Emotion**
Understand the difference between:
> **Objective & Subjective**
And become more aware of how **cognitive biases** influence our thoughts and decisions.
### 2. For Learning
Apply cognitive science to real-life learning:
* Memory
* Attention
* Motivation
* Procrastination
* Decision-making
* Learning strategies
Help students understand:
> **“Why do I learn the way I do?”**
And use an understanding of cognition to rethink and improve the way they learn.
### 3. Encourage Ideas & Expression
Through:
> **Drift Bottle → Seminar → Debate**
We encourage ideas to expand, interact, and collide with one another.
### 4. For Social Issues
Develop the habit of:
> **Understanding what happened before forming an opinion.**
Encourage students to seek facts and truth rather than immediately judging an event based on:
* Identity
* Appearance
* Labels
* Fandoms / Groups
Instead, ask:
> **What actually happened?**
> **Why are we reacting this way?**
Find cognitive science in everyday life.
### 5. For HFI
Provide HFI with a new space for student discussion:
> Not simply **“learning knowledge,”** and not simply **“expressing opinions,”** but exploring **why we form the opinions we do.**
At the same time, the club connects:
> **Interest → Critical Thinking → Academic Exploration → Competition / Research**
Therefore, the club can attract students who simply find cognitive science interesting, while also providing opportunities for students who want to develop their **academic experience, research skills, and intellectual interests.**
September — SP
October — KC
November — SP
ect.
English Version:
Considering the open and flexible nature of the Cognitive Science Club, the themes of the club’s activities will not be completely predetermined for the entire academic year. Instead, they will be adjusted flexibly according to the questions raised by members each month, voting results, and current social issues. The club’s main activity cycle will follow **“Drift Bottle → Monthly Question → Seminar → Debate,”** using questions genuinely raised by members as the starting point for discussion while maintaining both continuity and flexibility.
Considering the academic pressure and examination schedules faced by students during the 2026–2027 academic year, especially upper-year students, the club will not require each campus to organize a large in-person activity every month. Instead, the **KC and SP campuses will take turns organizing the monthly activities.**
Each campus will have its own campus leader and Core Team. Each month, one campus will be responsible for organizing the main activity, while the other campus will take over the following month. For example:
September — SP
October — KC
November — SP
etc.
In this way, each campus leader will only be responsible for organizing a major activity approximately once every two months, effectively reducing the operational workload while ensuring that the club remains active and consistent throughout the year.
During the months when one campus is not responsible for organizing the main activity, members from that campus can still participate through the club’s official account, Drift Bottles, online Seminars, Debate observation, and monthly voting. This ensures that the rotation between campuses does not create a significant information gap between members.
This arrangement will allow the club to maintain stable operations and strong connections between the two campuses, while also giving the Core Team sufficient time to prepare activities, pursue their own academic interests, and manage their individual academic responsibilities. At the same time, it prevents the club from sacrificing the quality of its activities simply to meet a fixed number of events.
