Heat waves faded as time passed by, and late autumn arrived at the city of Guangzhou with a touch of a light breeze. The HFI sports meeting took place on October 25th and 26th in Shipai Campus as usual, allowing participants to embrace the cooler weather while engaging in various athletic activities,
 

The sports meeting consisted of two main components: the opening ceremony, which featured multiple performances brought by each class, and the sports competitions themselves. Events such as the 100-meter and 400-meter races as well as the long jump, were included. Athletes eagerly participated as class teams: lights of excitement shined in their eyes as loud cheering of encouragement resonated through the air.

We spoke to several students about their experiences at the event. When asked what they valued most about the sports meeting, one student-athlete shared that both the tense and exciting atmosphere and the rewards received, along with the opportunity to make new friends,  were particularly memorable. 

“The event rekindled my passion for running and motivated me to get back to my regular training. In the evenings, going to the tracks with friends, listening to slow songs and the gentle sound of our footsteps is really enjoyable,” the student-athlete said.

The audience also had their share of reflections. When asked who the best athlete was, one of them singled out Fiona, who has won multiple gold medals and performed outstandingly in both the high jump and long jump, saying “The athletes were all so energetic and gave their best performances on the field. No matter the rankings, the hard work of the athletes is invaluable.”

 

The HFI staff showed their unwavering support and pride in their students through actively participating in the sports meeting. “Let’s give it our all for the athletes”, one teacher shouted with pride. She mentioned that while this year’s sports meeting appeared quieter than before, with freshmen, juniors, and seniors separated across different campuses, the spirit remained high.

By the end of the two-day sports meeting, participants had undergone challenges, shared moments of happiness, and most importantly, strengthened the bond of their friendship. What started off as a simple athletic event had evolved into something far more meaningful —
a symbol of hard work, friendship, and unity that will be treasured for years to come, leaving behind a lasting memory and a sense of achievement for everyone who participated.
