“Haunting Shadows”: A Night of Spooks and Surprises

“Wait!” “What happened there?” “Let’s take a look.” “That seems like……a MURDER case!!” As the temperature went down, everything around froze. The atmosphere was eerily quiet and silent as if the air held its breath. The absence of sound created a terrified tension. As the elevator door slowly opened, a loud laugh broke the silence! Let’s welcome the 2024 HFI Halloween event! All the students and teachers have been waiting so long for this funny and creepy event held by the HFI Student Union, which they can either dress casually or cosplay their favorite roles. Furthermore, the most fascinating thing was the party at night; clubs like Dielit and C.L.A.P. would hold various wonderful activities for students and staff.

Daytime Routine
This is the first year that the school was divided into two campuses, the KC campus and the Shipai campus. Teachers from both campuses formed a variety of eye-catching scenery. As teachers walked into classrooms, students would cheer in delight and appreciate the outfits of teachers on this special day.
On the KC campus, one of the most hilarious moments was when both teacher Yoee and teacher Joe both dressed like a psychopath! They didn’t even know that they bought the same suits until the day before Halloween. Other teachers’ getups were also creative. Raina cosplayed the office justice in Judy from Zootopia because she valued the quality of justice on Judy. What’s more, Venus transformed into Hua Mulan for the costume, which effectively demonstrated the elements of traditional Chinese culture.
In the Shipai campus, Hector’s joker costume won most of the teachers’ hearts. Hector took on the appearance of Joker from DC comics. The rationale was that his affection for HFI was similar to his love for Gotham. Additionally, he hoped to bring passion to students in their studies, according to interviews by Lens. All the teachers embraced the spirit of mystery and playfulness of Halloween.

Nighttime Party
As night fell, the stage was set for unforgettable performances. OXA brought us the song “Running Up That Hill.” It was full of passion and transferred the idea of courage, which inspired us to use all our strength to break through the plight of endless study. The dances shown by Fusion were equally stunning. One of the rhythmic and exuberant dances was called MEOW. Those splendid performances have already uplifted students’ spirits. Plenty of activities were waiting for them in the hall and different classrooms.

In the hall, the magic potions and drinks sold by No-worries and Café clubs attracted a crowd of people. With drinks in hand, they continued to participate in other activities. One of the most entertaining events was the music party held by the hip-hop club Dielit. The popularity of Dielit’s party was even more widespread than last year. The DJ in the front was singing loudly and motivated the people around. At the other end of the corridor, students were trying to enter the haunted house with both fear and excitement. C.L.A.P. set up interesting games in the haunted house, NPCs were responsible for their roles in order to provide students with the best experience. A dazzling array of activities made it hard for students to say goodbye to this night.

The Vibrancy Goes On
Halloween is a time that students can relax and release their nature apart from studying. The creativity of teachers leads the way for students. We students design colorful events to fill the day. This year, both the student union and clubs made all-out efforts because the division of campuses increased the difficulty of organizing activities. Worthy of everyone’s hard work, HFIers all had a great time! Halloween spread joy and surprise, leaving us with the most unforgettable and lasting memories. We hope that 2024’s Halloween can make students look forward to next year’s even more!
